Peter Gallagher has gone from The O.C. to The Gathering. Now that FOX’s O.C. has been cancelled after four seasons, the handsome 51-year old actor is moving to Lifetime’s new miniseries called The Gathering.

The two-part thriller revolves around Dr. Michael Foster, played by Peter Gallagher, who embarks on a search for his wife who suddenly vanishes. His hunt takes him to the dark and sinister bowels of New York, where he uncovers the existence of a cabal of witches.

The Gathering is a collaboration of two masters of the sci-fi genre – Battlestar Galactica executive producer, David Eick and John Shiban, who served as producer/executive producer on The X-Files and Enterprise.

The four-hour drama is their unique take on an old horror staple with a modern day twist. "We wanted to take a horror staple - witchcraft - and give it a dose of reality and make television that scares because it feels real, so I'm thrilled to be partnered with David and Lifetime as we try to apply the same reality ethos to the horror genre," John Shiban said.

For his part, David Eick remarked that "The scarier the real world gets, the more it seems we look to allegory to reflect our fears back at us. This is a very timely story, about how the people closest to you might be the ones you can trust the least."

Meanwhile, the president of Lifetime Entertainment Services, Susanne Daniels, said "It's great to be in business with David Eick and John Shiban who have created a truly unique and scary event for Lifetime. The storytelling in The Gathering reminds us how unpredictable and unexplainable life can truly be."

Aside from The O.C.’s Peter Gallagher, The Gathering, which is slated to premiere in October, also stars Jamie-Lynn Sigler from The Sopranos, Drive’s Kristen Lehman, Jenna Boyd of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Golden Globe Award-winning veteran actor, Peter Fonda.
