When buying custom imprinted printed mugs, you want to make the best of the opportunity to make an impression on your customers and the recipients of your business or promotional gifts. There are a few considerations that will help you get the most out of your promotional budget with imprinted printed mugs that make an impact on your customers and help you achieve your marketing goals.

Make the best use of colour.
If colour is a key part of your branding – and if it isn’t, it should be – start with an item in one of your company colours. There are many advantages to using a company brand colour as the base colour of your item. First, it increases the impact of your branding by making one of the logo colours a major part of the item itself. In addition, it could decrease your printing costs by cutting out one of your print colours – there’s no need to print an area of your logo that is already the colour of the mug you’ve chosen. That will save you money on setup costs and imprints. Finally, by cutting down on the number of colours needed in printing, you could be increasing the selection you have of printed mugs, since many can only be printed in a limited range of colours.

Make your logo big, clear and bold to stand out.
Keep your message short and sweet – just your logo is great if it’s a recognizable one. Choose mugs with a large imprint area so that you can make your logo or tag line as big as possible. The font you choose for your tag line or motto should be one that’s easy to read from a distance, and there should be as few fussy details as possible. Work closely with the art department of your printed mugs supplier to come up with camera ready artwork that is clear, bold and big enough to take full advantage of the entire print area of the mug you’ve chosen.

Use multiple print areas where appropriate.
Many printed mugs feature multiple print areas – you can print on the front side of the mug and the back side, as well as along the inside rim where your printed message will be at eye level when the mug is lifted for a drink. Using more than one imprint area will increase the cost of your product, but the extra cost could be well worth it. If the point of choosing printed mugs is to increase your brand visibility, then it only makes sense to put your brand wherever you can. On the other hand, be sensible. Putting too much information on one little mug can be overkill and just make your message confusing. If you can add value to your item by adding a tag line to the inner rim, by all means take advantage.

Allow enough time for proofs.
Give yourself enough lead time on your order to take full advantage of being able to see the finished product before the full production is run. Most promotional products suppliers will offer you a mockup of how the item will look with your artwork on it, and provide a “virtual sample”. Many will also ship you a pre-production proof if your order is a large one and there is enough time. It’s far better to find out that the colours are off before the full batch is printed.
