In business management, sooner or later we all confront the age-old culprit of not having enough time to complete the tasks at hand. There's no need to mention here that this can and does wreak havoc on the work to be done, but it also can take it's toll on one's family. When work takes away most of a person's time, they are left with less time to form solid relationships with their loved ones.
There is perhaps no better way to illustrate this than by the fact that the average working person spends less than 2 minutes per day in meaningful communication with their spouse or significant other. That number drops to less than 30 seconds when it comes to their children. The significance of this data becomes even more clear when one considers the fact that 95% of all divorces are caused by "lack of communication". Unfortunately, most of us never adequately learn how to manage time effectively. It's just something that's never taught to us, either as children or adults.
The secret involves leveraging time into the most efficient format possible for getting work done and saving time. The results of proper time management are: being able to spend more time with loved ones, getting more work done while exerting less energy, and greater self-esteem as you move closer to accomplishing your goals. An overall simplified life is also a result of proper time management - both on a personal and professional level. This leads to a greater sense of happiness, security, and control.
All of us would love to find a way to accomplish more in the same or even less time than it takes us to currently complete our tasks. Remember the old adage - "time is money"? Well, this is certainly true. Time is just as important as money, and should be treated as such. Almost always, when time is managed efficiently, a businesses' profits tend to increase. The execution of proper time management also lets one identify time wasters and distractions that get in the way of productive work. Also, time management should be combined with a well organized work environment for maximum efficiency. For example, a person who works with a messy or cluttered desk spends, on average, 1 1/2 hours per day looking for things or being distracted, working out to a total of about 7 1/2 hours per workweek.
According to a recent poll, 78% of American workers say they wish they had more time to relax. Even more staggering is the following data - 40% of American working people skip breakfast, and 39% skip lunch. Of those who take a lunch break, 50% allow only 15 minutes or less. Considering these numbers, it's no wonder 49% of workers in America say they feel like they are on a treadmil. It seems as though we, as a society, are truly in a time management crisis.
