Materials like carpets and rugs form a very important part of our house. A house looks good and attractive if a good carpet or rug is laid down in the rooms. But the problem with the carpets and rugs is that they demand good care. One can not expect a carpet to look good if it is not cleaned on regular basis. So the carpets and rugs should be cleaned to maintain their good look. Also the cleaning of carpets and rugs is necessary for the good hygiene of the house. People living in that house will fall ill more often where the carpets are not cleaned regularly.
Mostly people prefer to lay down a piece of rug near the bed so that all the dirt from their feet gets wiped off before getting on to their bed. This ways the bed is kept clean but the rugs get dirty very soon. And this happens especially in the rainy season. All the dirt from outside gets struck to the rugs. Also the pets add to the problem. Whenever they come from outside after a nice shower in the rain all the dirt and the water is wiped off from their body with the rugs and carpets of the rooms. Thus one has to clean it. If the piece of rug is small and the color does not go off with a mild detergent and water then it can washed easily in a washing machine. The color can be tested by applying a little bit of water and detergent on the corner of carpet. If the color does not go off then the whole carpet or rug can be washed. If the carpet is made of wool fiber then the carpet can be easily sent for dry cleaning. Dry cleaning is an easy and cheap method of getting the carpets cleaned. But both these methods are applicable if the carpet or rug size is small and if the carpet is not pasted to the floor.
If we have wall to wall carpets in the house one should always use lots of door mats and small carpets. The door mats can be placed at all the entries of the house especially at the main entrance of the house as that is the door where the most of the dirt comes from. Also the door mats need to be laid near the bathroom doors and the kitchen door.
A vacuum cleaner can be used for removing the tits and bits and the dirt on the carpets. The living room carpet needs to be vacuumed more often than the carpet of the bedroom. Also the persons moving on the carpets should be walking bare footed as the oil beneath the feet sticks to the fibers of the carpet. This oil is difficult to remove and needs thorough cleaning. One should always wear socks or carpet slippers to maintain the good look of the rug.
