The state of Rio de Grande Norte is on the cusp of becoming a mainstream tourist destination. Natal is a new exciting Brazilian tourist destination that is close to Europe and North America that provides cheaper options for flights, excellent restaurants and hotels, and fine dining. This added to its unspoilt beaches, average temperatures of 30 °C and the development of the world’s future fourth largest airport. Five million travellers travelled in airlines per year last year, so now the airlines are offering a holiday package and direct flight option.

American Airlines is expected to be the first US airline next year to operate direct flights to Natal via Miami, five hour flight time, whilst British Airways will fly direct from London. Large holiday companies such as Thomson, have introduced some interesting holiday packages covering charter flights at a very interesting rate. We are witnessing the beginning of a huge global tourism market. As a result, resort demand, rental rates, and land prices are all increasing at similarly rapid rates.
When Brazil hosts the FIFA world cup for the second time in 2014 there will be an influx of tourists which will be far more than before. The decision to allow Brazil to host the world cup indicates that FIFA are happy that local infrastructure is in place to welcome large volumes of visitors. Of the nineteen cities that are interested, Natal will probably be hosting games with the planned construction of a 51,000 capacity stadium.
