Weymouth is an extraordinary seaside town with numerous places of interest and one of my preferred is the Brewery Days and Timewalk Museum, which is a fantastic place to visit if you love history, although it is also a good experience for all the family. This prized attraction transports you to Portland and Weymouth’s past spanning around six hundred years and you will experience the sights, sound and smells all through the whole journey which make this an truly enjoyable experience.
Firstly you go into the brewery archivist’s office and make sure you check out the hands of the old clock as they begin turning the wrong way, sending you back to the era of the 14th century when the town was in the clutch of the Black Death. There are many realistic life-size arrangements each of which show you the history of the district through the ages. These include the town’s preparations for the impending coming of the Spanish Armada in 1588, and in Hope Square there is an iron chest on exhibition which is said to have been reclaimed from the San Salvador, a Portuguese flagship of the Armada.
There is also the Victorian brewhouse where you will discover the Brewery Days attraction which shows you an insight into the brewing history of Hope Square stemming from 1821 all the way to the present day. To keep up with modern day attractions there is an interactive gallery with audio and visual presentation which tells you tale of the brewery’s past as well as the method of making the beer. Finally you reach the Drum & Dancer which is a Victorian bar where you get to try one of a range of superior ales which are brewed on site by The Quay Brewery.
If beer is not your thing then you can take a leisurely walk around the twenty or so shops that are enclosed in the brewery building. These shops specialize in an array of exclusive goods and will be of interest to many. For those who would think of visiting the Brewers Quay and Timewalk Museum the opening hours are 10.00am - 5.30pm seven days a week all year round.
