1. A Tent
Yes, it’s obvious but you’ll need to consider size/capacity, weight, shape, fabric and special features. There’s a lot to think about when it comes to buying a tent. Tents are often classified as 1 person, 2 person etc. but this can be deceiving. As a general rule it is a good idea to buy a tent that accommodates two more people than your group size. So if there are four of you, buy a six person tent. You’ll thank us when you’re not squished up in the middle of the night.
Make sure you practice putting your tent up before you go on your trip. Sods law dictates that you will mess it up if you don’t practice.

2. Sleeping Equipment
This includes a decent sleeping bag, and, ideally an airbed or lilo. Sleeping outdoors can be brilliant, but being cold and uncomfortable needn’t be part of the experience. Buy a sleeping bag appropriate to where you’ll be sleeping: cold/wet/dry and hot environment.

3. First Aid Kit
It goes without saying that you need to have one of these and its preferable to have a small kit per person. Consider the environment you’ll be going into and adapt your first aid kit to meet its needs. The kit includes sun cream – a high factor please, skin damage is ugly and seriously unhealthy.

4. Water
Without water, we’re stuck, we’re sure you know that. It’s worth it to carry as much water as possible. Most holiday parks have good drinking water supplies but it is important to factor in the possibility that they might not.

5. A Torch
Get yourself a wind-up torch and you’ll no longer need to worry about the batteries running out on the midnight run to the loo or tripping up over guy ropes. Let’s face it, falling over is never cool, especially on family holidays when your kids will definitely mock you.
