Pushkar City in Rajasthan is an important pilgrimage place for Hindus in India. Pushkar is famous for its temple and well known as FIFTH DHAM or pilgrimage. The famous town is located at about 135 km from Jaipur and 10 km from Ajmer. Every year, lot of tourists and devotees come to visit Pushkar and the Famous Lake at Pushkar. The Climate of Pushkar is one of the main attractions in increasing the People to Visit Pushkar. Pushkar Lake is something in circular shape and there are about 52 Ghats nearby the lake. Pushkar is also famous for the annual Pushkar Camel Fair, which has a religious as well as traditional importance. Pushkar Camel Fair is held for 5 days during the occasion of Karthik Purnima, which generally falls in the month of October and November every year. This Camel fair take place at Pushkar City and holds much religious significance. In this period of the Pushkar Camel and Cattle Fair, tourists enjoy Rajasthan's Folk Dances, Camel Safaris and Cultural programs which are held by the Villagers.
Most of Indians and local people come to visit the temples at Pushkar. Brahma Temple, Varah Temple and Savitri Temple are the famous Pilgrimages in the city of Pushkar. Every Temple has his own history. Brahma Temple relates with Lord Brahma and Varah Temple relates with Lords Vishnu. During the Pushkar camel fair thousands of devotees from all over the world throng to the lake to take a sacred dip into it, as the Hindus believe that a dip in the holy Pushkar Lake is very auspicious at this time. Pushkar camel fair has a great significance for the devotees as well as travelers and it attracts tourists from worldwide for India Tours and experiences this cultural, traditional and religious face of India.
On this auspicious occasion, the largest camel fair of India is held at Pushkar. Camels coming to the fair are decorated with great care and wear jewelry of silver and beads. The silver bells and bangles around their ankles make an interesting sound when they walk. An interesting feature of camels coming in the fair is piercing of their nose, which is considered a must ritual. In this fair mass trading of camel is done. Besides camels other cattle are also bought and sold. It's estimated that over 25,000 camels are traded in the Pushkar camel fair, making it the largest camel fair of the world. Major attractions which tourists could experience in Pushkar camel fair programmes are Mandana Competition, Classical music & devotional songs, Dance Competitions, Camel Races, Spritual Walk (Pushkar Parikarma), Animal competition (camel, horse & nagauri bullock), Shilpgram Art & Craft Bazar, Folk Dances & Songs (Raas leela).
